Just Getting Started On eBay - A Basic Overview

Have you seen the advertisements on TV that show people how to make money on eBay? You probably have. Yet learning to sell on eBay isn’t just a get rich scheme. It requires hard work and dedication to create an eBay business. Yet comparatively speaking, you probably won’t be working as hard as you would in your full time job. That doesn’t mean you should quit your job immediately, because your eBay business is going to need a bit of time before it can support you and cover your living expenses.

But if you’re looking to make a couple hundred to a few thousand dollars extra per month, it can definitely be done with eBay. One of the advantages to eBay as opposed to working for someone else is that the more you put into eBay, the more you’ll get back in return. Now, learning to sell on eBay can be done in various ways. You could buy a book or a course. Or you could try to learn on your own. While everyone is different, I think the fastest way to sell on eBay is to find a mentor… someone who can show you step-by-step what to do. That’s how I got started.

Building a long-term eBay business depends on the products you have to sell. That’s why it’s important to research which products sell on eBay the best and then find those products. Yet if you’re just getting started, don’t stress about what to sell. Instead, look around your house and find items that are just clutter. You’d be surprised how well these items sell on eBay. In addition, these auctions will allow you to gain experience on eBay. You’ll build your customer feedback ratings as well.

How do you research what is selling on eBay? First search eBay for the exact kind of product you have in mind. Are there a lot of people buying this type of product? Are there many auctions up with no bids on any of them? Is the product in high demand? By asking yourself these questions, you’ll have a better idea of what you should sell. You’ll also be a few steps closer to knowing how to sell on eBay properly.

Next, when you’ve found a product that you would like to sell, make sure that you stand out from the crowd. Say you have the same product as 5 other sellers. What would make a buyer purchase from you versus the competition? Often on eBay people are looking for the best price. If you can price lower than your competition, you’ll have an edge. Keep in mind when you price your products that you don’t forget about your costs and eBay fees. If you can consistently sell with good profit margins, you’ll be in business.

Most beginners take a few weeks or months to really figure out how to sell on eBay, but don’t get discouraged. You can learn how to do it too, and shorten the learning time significantly if you have a plan to follow and a mentor who will help you. Before you know it, you’ll be making money on eBay. You’ll be the next eBay success story.
